The BEA 2000 Story Contest
The Upshot
June 26, 2000 marked the third birthday of the BEArchive, and in celebration, we're holding the first-ever BEA Story Contest, with real cash prizes!
Here's a quick summary of the rules:
- Stories must be a minimum of 5000 words long.
- Stories must be new, not previously published.
- Stories must be submitted between July 1 and September 30, 2000, unless the contest gets extended.
- Stories must use one of the contest plot lines shown below.
More detailed rules descriptions are below, after the plotlines; but the above are the four big ones. And what are the prizes, you ask? Just take a look!
- First Prize: $500 in cash!
- Second Prize: $200 in cash!
- Third Prize: $100 in cash!
- Four Honorable Mentions: $50 in cash, each!
- All Entries: Free membership in the BEArchive!
Again, details on the prizes and how they will be awarded are below in the full rules. But that's the gist of the deal: we're paying $500 in cash to the writer of the best BE story, and paying the next six best story authors a chunk of money too. All told, it's $1000 in cash prizes for BE authors, and lots of memberships to boot, the most money ever awarded in any BE writing contest!
Contest Plotlines
In order to keep it interesting, to spark creative stories, and to
challenge even the BE community's best authors, the judges have come up with a set of seven "Story Starter" plots. Each story entry must use one of these plots.
These plots have been carefully crafted by the expert judges to be vague enough to allow all sorts of valid variations, yet specific enough to spark specific stories. They were also created to span the gamut of the BE genre: there are ideas here having to do with science, others with magic, some with lactation, some with mind-control, etc. Most of them can actually be used to include just about any aspect of our fetish you desire. Pick one or two and start writing; you can even submit multiple stories that use the same plot if you like (you can't submit the same story more than once, though).
|
PLOTLINE 1:
A woman suddenly develops an unusual allergy to dairy products. She never
before realized how many different foods contain milk...
|
|
PLOTLINE 2:
An apprentice sorceress peeks into a forbidden
book of spells when her teacher goes away on vacation.
|
|
PLOTLINE 3:
A girl is surprised upon meeting her cousin whom
she hasn't seen for six months and who has developed
an incredibly large bust.
|
|
PLOTLINE 4:
A scientist discovers a device which can control a woman's
breast size, as well as her mind.
|
|
PLOTLINE 5:
A college freshman arrives at her dorm to find all the girls
suspiciously busty, then discovers the secret. What could
it be? And will she soon join them?
|
|
PLOTLINE 6:
Something in the village of Hooterville is slowly turning
every girl in town into a topheavy ditzy bimbo.
|
|
PLOTLINE 7:
A plain, flatchested girl finds that for 24 hours on her
18th birthday, everything she says comes magically true.

Judging
This Story Contest has four judges:
- Al, the editor of R & D, famed BE author, and story reviewer
- Adama, inveterate BE fan and Addventure author
- Leviathan, known BE fan, Addventure author, and story critiquer
- Yours truly, Mark T, the BEA Story Archivist
All of us will rate each story entry using a points system. Stories will then be ranked by their total points. Ties will be broken by the judges evaluating all tied stories and ranking them.
OFFICIAL RULES AND PRIZES
- All submitted stories must be new and not previously published on the
Internet or in a circulated publication. All stories must be property
of the submitter.
- Submitted stories must have a minimum of 5000 words.
- There is no limit to how many stories an author can submit.
- All authors grant the BEA permission to display their entries in the
members-only portion of the story archive.
- Stories must be accompanied by an email address at which the author can be contacted. This address will not be published (unless the author puts it in his story or publishes it himself), but may be used by the judges to contact the entrant for contest purposes (arranging prize delivery, setting up free memberships, etc).
Stories without an email address are still eligible in the contest, but cannot be awarded free BE Archive memberships, and may not be able to be awarded prizes (see prize section below).
- Contest judges and paid employees of the BE Archive are ineligible to enter.
- The contest will run from July 1, 2000 through September 30, 2000, but (at the discretion of
the Story Archivist) may be extended an additional 3 months should there be
an
insufficient number of entries received.
- All stories must contain BE - that is, someone must at one point in the
story grow larger breasts than they have at another (chronologically earlier) point in the story.
- Stories must be submitted in one of the following three formats:
- ASCII text
- HTML
- Microsoft Word document
Stories can be submitted via email to "stories@bearchive.com". Please indicate that
you are submitting a story for the contest.
- Judges will rate each story on a scale of 0-10 points (10 being the best). The
story
with the highest total score (summing the scores of all four judges) wins
first prize, the second-best wins second prize, and the third wins third
prize.
Honorable Mention awards will be awarded to the next four stories.
PRIZES
- The top three prizes and the four honorable mentions are CASH PRIZES. The amounts are as follows:
- First Prize: $500 in cash
- Second Prize: $200 in cash
- Third Prize: $100 in cash
- Four Honorable Mentions: $50 in cash, each
- Authors must submit along with their stories some indication of how they can be paid if they win, or some way to contact them via email to arrange a payment method if they win. The two choices BEArchive has available are:
- Authors may supply a physical mail address and a name,
and the BEArchive will send a check for US funds payable to
that name, to that address.
- Authors may supply an email address, and BEArchive will
send an Amazon.Com Gift Certificate for the proper amount
to that email address. Note that BEArchive cannot be held
responsible if the email address provided by the author is
incorrect.
Authors may elect to not send prize-delivery information with their story, and instead send it only if they win a prize, but then they must be sure to send an email address at which we can contact them if they win! Also, if neither of the above options is desireable, we are open to other suggestions -- but be aware that the BEArchive cannot be held responsible for the risks or costs associated with other methods. For example, while we can send money orders instead of checks, we can't cancel money orders if they go missing. If a check goes missing, we can cancel it and issue another.
Authors don't have to accept prizes if they don't want to. If the author of any winning story prefers not to accept a cash prize, the prize in question will be distributed to the author(s) of other stories at the discretion of the judges.
- There is no limit to how many prizes an author can win, though each story can only win one prize.
- All authors who submit an entry will receive a free membership
to the BEArchive (regardless of whether they win a prize or not) based on the
members' story archive's guidelines for free membership. Since the minimum entry size is 5000 words, the shortest possible free membership period is six weeks - and most entries will receive at least two months of membership.
Additional Guidelines
Not part of the official rules, but some additional guidelines for aspiring contestants, to let you know where we're coming from:
We're not looking for epic novels here (although if you end up inspired to write one, please feel free to do so); story length is not a factor in judging beyond the fact that a story must meet the minimum word count of 5000 words, which works out to approximately 30 K in normal HTML. Average story submission will probably be around 8000-10000 words, we'd expect. So please, write well -- but don't feel required to write long.
Some of the judges have well-known traits. For instance, if you've read R & D's reviews, you know Al is a stickler for grammar and spelling. If you read my Picks of the Pack, you know I've got a soft spot for humor in a story. You can feel free to play to any of our preferences you like, but since there are four different judges it's not likely that satisfying one judge with their favorite thing will do all that much for the other three. Still, it never hurts to run your story through a spellchecker first (hint! hint!).
In a week or two, I hope to have up a separate submissions page for submitting stories to the Story Contest. For now, please just identify your story as a Contest Entry when you email it to me, and it'll be considered entered in the contest.
E-mail me with any comments about the Story Contest.
